Why Self Rescue ™ swimming:
The Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) technique and goals are unique. Swimming simply means “to move through the water”. This definition is very limited to any movement. This is why ISR emphasizes more than just "swimming skills". ISR strives to provide a comprehensive SURVIVAL SWIMMING program. Survival swimming is the ability to self-rescue by moving through the water independently while breathing with little effort expended. Effort takes energy, and children have limited sustainable energy. A child swimming and lifting his head to breathe is expending great amounts of energy to attain air. This technique will soon fatigue a child. The rollback to a float to breathe requires little effort offering unlimited rest and air while in the water, thus equipping the child with aquatic self-rescue survival skills to potentially save himself in an emergency situation. Most importantly, the ISR student will have practiced all the SURVIVAL SWIMMING, self-rescue skills while fully clothed.
Target Ages:
Ages 6 months (and sitting) to 6 years old
What Will My Child Learn
Six months to Twelve months - infants learn to hold their breath under water, roll onto their backs and float unassisted.
One year to six years - learn how to hold their breath underwater, swim with their head down and eyes open, roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe, and roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool and can crawl out. Once skilled, children practice these techniques fully clothed. |
Not Just the Superstars
While talking with parents, I realized that many suspected that only the exceptional child could master these skills. So I put this composite together of the younger swimmers to show what it looks like at my pool at the end of the session. Most of these kids are demonstrating their skills wearing "summer clothes". I hope that after watching this you'll get a feel for why ISR parents are such huge supporters and often stay well beyond their time slot watching and cheering on child after child after child.

How long are lessons
The ISR lesson experience is a comprehensive one-on-one program where each lesson is customized for the infant or child as they are safely guided through the learning process. ISR students attend classes daily, Monday-Friday for no longer than a 10-minute period. Daily participation (while learning) involves a much higher retention involved with proprioceptive-sensory learning. Studies show that children learn faster and retain skills best when taught in short increments frequently. Hence the 5 days in a row, 10-minute lessons. Like any other physical activity, learning self-rescue skills in the water for the infant or child involves much practice. This is the reason for the approximate six week initial course. It takes a little while for a baby or young child to learn effective self-rescue skills!
When are classes
I typically teach in time slots between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm starting mid-April and wrapping up around end of June. If there is sufficient interest, there will be a second session offered starting August 5th in slots from 10:30 to 2:30. These times may adjust slightly as demand dictates. Please contact me for more information and to reserve a time slot.
How much are classes
Registration Fee: Initial registration fee of $105 is to be paid directly to ISR (you will fill out a medical history questionnaire to be reviewed by our medical staff at our corporate office. ISR will then email me with recommended safety protocols specific to your child's needs.) $35 yearly fee is required to update a registration for returning students.
Weekly Tuition: $90 per week paid directly to me each Monday. (You can expect on average 5 to 6 weeks, depending on the child. The length of the course is dictated by the speed the child learns the skills. If they master the skills faster, the session will be shorter. Likewise, occasionally a child takes a bit longer to master the skills, particularly if they have attendance issues or pre-existing challenging water habits.
